Ten Steps to Graduation
Students who want to graduate on time need to plan and know the UAA system. Here are ten steps to follow so that you will be on schedule for graduation.
- Determine Your Major and Minor --What do you want to be when you grow up? Determining what you want to major in can be a daunting decision. The Advising and testing Center and faculty can help if you are having trouble deciding.
You are not required, but are encouraged, to have a minor . Minors add depth to your academic experience and are often helpful in getting a good job after graduation.
- See Your Academic Advisor--Once you have determined your major, the academic department staff will assign an advisor to you. Make an appointment to see your academic advisor ASAP. Your academic advisor is the key to ensuring that you are on the right path and that there are no unpleasant surprises when it comes time to graduate.
- Create a Long-Term Plan--Plan out your four-year schedule for graduation. Consult the university catalog and your advisor for the appropriate general education, college, and major requirements for your particular degree program. Consider your course load and any outside obligations that may influence whether you attend classes full time or part time.
- Contact the Financial Aid Office http://www.uaa.alaska.edu/finaid/--If you are receiving financial aid, ensure that you maintain satisfactory academic progress and meet all other requirements in order to avoid suspension of your aid.
- Consult with Your Advisor Before Every Registration--Keep your academic advisor informed of any changes you may need to make to your academic plan. In fact, see your academic advisor before every semester's registration.
- Check Your Personal Information on Wolflink --Follow the login instructions to make certain that your personal information that is on file with the university is correct.
- Follow All Correct Procedures--Find out any special requirements for your graduation and make certain you are following the correct procedures. Consult with your advisor.
- Complete a Junior Year Audit–Get a copy of your transcript and review it with your academic advisor.
