Participation

Attendance at Events

The College sponsors many readings, concerts, symposia, art shows, theatre productions, seminars, and conferences throughout the year. The local community is invited to all events.

CAS Advisory Council

The CAS Advisory Council, made up of community leaders, has three purposes: 1) to represent community needs and opportunities to the Dean and propose ways in which the College may respond, 2) to suggest future directions for the College, and 3) to support and advocate for the College to constituencies both inside and outside the University of Alaska.

  • Contact the CAS Dean at (907) 786-1707 for further information.
Affiliates

Affiliates are volunteers who assist departments and programs as faculty, thesis committee members, and in other honorary positions. Normally, affiliates are appointed for one to three years. At the discretion of the Dean or department/program chair, an affiliate may have faculty privileges, such as access to library and recreational facilities, use of field sites, and admission to study groups. However, affiliates are not paid, receive no benefits, and are not considered employees of UAA.

  • Contact the appropriate CAS department or program for further information.
Guest Speakers

Guest speakers from the community are often asked to share their expertise with students, faculty, and administrators. The College community appreciates this sharing of knowledge and recognizes the time and energy that it takes.

Advocacy

CAS students, faculty, staff, and administrators appreciate community advocacy for the College on a local or state-wide level. The CAS Advisory Council advocates for the College as well.

  • Contact the CAS Dean at (907) 786-1707 for further information.

Program Support

The College has established the Excellence in Arts and Sciences Fund to help CAS departments and programs meet student and community needs. Gifts to this fund provide resources, such as lab equipment, guest speakers, student exchange study, conferences/travel, and musical instruments. As well, virtually every CAS department or program has a yearly event, such as a conference, art exhibit, or seminar series.
