James Liszka, Ph.D, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences
Dr. James Liszka is Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. He is also Professor of Philosophy and served as the Chair of the Department of Philosophy for a number of years. Prior to his current appointment, he served as the Interim Vice Provost for Research and Graduate Studies, and the Interim Director of Graduate Studies. Dr. Liszka was also President of the Faculty Senate. He is an internationally noted scholar in semiotics--the theory of signs and symbols---American philosophy--especially Charles Peirce---and in business and professional ethics. He has published a number of books and articles in these areas. These include Moral Competence (Prentice Hall), A General Introduction to the Semeiotic of Charles Peirce (Indiana University Press), and The Semiotic of Myth (Indiana University Press). He was editor of The Graduate Faculty Philosophy Journal and The Alaska Quarterly Review , which he co-founded with Ron Spatz at the University of Alaska Anchorage in 1980. In 1999 he was given the Chancellor's Award for Outstanding Research, and in 1998 the University's Excellence in Teaching Award. He was a Humanities Fellow at the University of Toronto , Scarborough College , and received his Ph.D. in philosophy at the New School for Social Research. Dr. Liszka has worked at the University of Alaska Anchorage for 25 years.

Patricia Linton, Ph.D., Associate Dean for
Student and Curricular Affairs
| Dr. Patricia Linton has been Asossiate Dean for Student and Curricular Affairs since 2004, and is Professor of English. Dr. Linton earned her Ph.D. at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Her research specialty is in contemporary literature and film, postmodernism, postcolonialism, and critical theory. She has published in Modern Fiction Studies, MELUS, Studies in American Indian Literatures, and the American Review of Canadian Studies. |

Kim Peterson Ph.D., Associate Dean for Research
Dr. Kim Peterson is Professor of Biological Sciences, and has worked at UAA since 1992. He received his Ph.D. at Duke University, and his research specialty is in arctic plant ecology and climate change effects. His current research interests include carbon balance of tundra and taiga, controls of methane and carbon dioxide efflux from cold humic soils, and regional ecosystems integration. He was formerly Chair of the Biology Department and Vice Provost for Research and Graduate Studies at UAA. |

Linda Ottinger received her Master's in Management at Southern Oregon University, and her B.B.A. in Accounting from Sam Houston State University. Before joining the College of Arts and Sciences, she was Finance Director at Alaska Pacific Univerity, Director of Accounting Services at the College of the Siskiyous in California, and Business Manager at Prince William Sound Community College. |

Administrative Assistant to the Dean and Operations Manager
Barbara provides administrative support to the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences in academic, faculty, staff, and administrative concerns and acts as the Office Coordinator within the Dean's Office.
Sabrina Haverfield
Administrative Specialist for Social Sciences and Performing & Fine Arts Divisions
Sabrina provides administrative, academic, personnel, and budget support to the Dean and the CAS departments within the Social Sciences and Performing & Fine Arts Divisions. These divisions include the Canadian Studies Program, the International North Pacific Studies Program, the Bachelor of Liberal Studies Program, and the Departments of Anthropology, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, Art, Music, and Theatre and Dance.
Sheila Selders
Receptionist
Sheila is the receptionist for the College of Arts and Sciences Administrative Office. She channels inquiries for all of the Dean's Office plus the 25 departments within the College. Sheila also supports the Administrative Assistant to the Dean and the Administrative Specialists for the divisions.
Kathleen Shepro
Administrative Specialist for Humanities Division
Kathleen provides administrative, academic, personnel, and budget support to the Dean and the CAS departments within the Humanities Division. This division includes the Alaska Native Studies Program, the Women's Studies Program, and the Departments of Communication, Creative Writing & Literary Arts, English, History/Geography, Journalism & Public Communications, Languages/ASL, and Philosophy.
Wendy Withrow
Administrative Specialistr for Mathematical and Natural Sciences Division
Wendy provides administrative, academic, personnel, and budget support to the Dean and the CAS Departments within the Mathematical and Natural Sciences Division. This division includes the Departments of Mathematical Sciences (Mathematics, Applied Statistics, and Computer Science), Biological Sciences, the Biomedical Program (WWAMI), Chemistry, the Environmental and Natural Resources Institute (ENRI), Environmental Studies (ENVI), Physics/Astronomy, Geology, and the Bachelor of Liberal Studies (Natural Sciences) Program.

Teresa Kimmel
Business Manager
Teresa provides support to the Finance Director, and manages the day-totday operations of the CAS budget.
Debbie Gleason
Budget Specialist
Debbie coordinates and tracks all budget accounts within the College of Arts and Sciences and provides administrative support to the Director for Finance and Operations.

Fredha Olson
Administrative Assistant Science Grants
Fredha provides administrative support ro the Director for Finance and Operations, manages grants for the College, and coordinates with the Office of Sponsored Programs.
Kris Keays
Budget and Grants Coordinator
Kris provides administrative support to the Director for Finance and Operations, and for college programs including the Bachelor of Liberal Studies, Canadian Studies, Environmental Studies, International North Pacific Studies, and Women's Studies. She also processes paperwork for student workers.

Marilyn Borell
Academic Coodinator
Marilyn provides administrative support to the Associate Dean for Student and Curricular Affairs andthe CAS Course and Curriculum Committee, and curricular and student paperwork support to the college's academic departments and programs.
Deborah Ginsburg
Student Sucess Coordinator
Deborah advises students majoring in the College of Arts and Sciences, and coordinates with the Associate Dean for Student and Curricular Affairs.
John Seltenright
Student Success Coordinator
